Description

QR codes make task cards more engaging! Simply cut out and laminate the cards and place in a center with a device that can read QR codes (iPod Touch, iPad, tablet, or laptop/desktop with a camera). Students get immediate feedback when they scan the QR codes.

This set includes 32 task cards that deal with multiplying fractions by whole numbers. The first 8 cards have visual models to help students multiply and the last 8 are word problems. These task cards are aligned to the following Common Core State Standards: 4.NF.4a, 4.NF.4b & 4.NF.4c.

A student recording sheet, answer key, and one-page (6 question) quick assessment are included. I recently upgraded all of my math task cards to include a digital, self-grading version of the quick assessment using Google Formsβ„’! Download the preview to see the task cards up close. Please make sure that you have a device that can scan QR codes before purchasing.

Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. For example, if each person at a party will eat 3/8 of a pound of roast beef, and there will be 5 people at the party, how many pounds of roast beef will be needed? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?
Understand a multiple of 𝘒/𝘣 as a multiple of 1/𝘣, and use this understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. For example, use a visual fraction model to express 3 Γ— (2/5) as 6 Γ— (1/5), recognizing this product as 6/5. (In general, 𝘯 Γ— (𝘒/𝘣) = (𝘯 Γ— 𝘒)/𝘣.)
Understand a fraction 𝘒/𝘣 as a multiple of 1/𝘣. For example, use a visual fraction model to represent 5/4 as the product 5 Γ— (1/4), recording the conclusion by the equation 5/4 = 5 Γ— (1/4).
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number.
