Story cubes are a common tool in many classrooms and can be used in a variety of ways. The addition of QR codes gives teachers the opportunity to integrate technology and demonstrate for students how smartphones, tablets, etc. are used for purposes other than entertainment. This activity can also be expanded on by asking students to create cartoons or other presentations about particular devices using tools such as VoiceThread, Powtoon, Moovly, etc. Students are also able to link their video to their story cube through a QR code.
The QR codes will be created for the definition of the literary device and for analyzing the purpose or use of the device. The QR code may be the students’ own words and explanations, or may contain links to videos or webpages which elaborate on the device. The finished story cube should be able to be used as a study tool for students. Students should be able to trade cubes and use a QR reader app for information regarding the literary devices used in the story.
