This is an awesome, 4-page document that allows students to review reading skills individually or in a group. The document includes review of the following skills: Vocabulary, Affixes, Text Structures, Figurative Language, Literary Devices, Sound Devices, Book Recommendation (Persuasive Writing), Summary, Climax, and Cause & Effect.
I've used it in several different ways.
1. Assign the whole class the same novel or short story. As they read, assign a section to be filled out based off information in that chapter, or do a section together as a class. I've also read the entire novel together as a class, then had them fill out the packet with a group.
2. Allow each student to select his/her own book within parameters. As they read, assign a section to be filled out based off information in that chapter, or have them read the entire novel, then fill out the packet.
3. Allow groups of students to read a book together, then work together to fill out the packet as a book club. I've used this method during our "Tutorial" time, and it was quite effective. I also had my higher group use the information collected from this packet to make a presentation.
