Learning Objective: The student will be able to find the factored form of a quadratic equation

Included: student worksheet, 10 problems, and answer key

Teacher will need to print out the 10 problems for each station, it is recommended to print using card stock. Laminating the stations is a must so they can be used again and again. A student work sheet is enclosed to make it easier for the teacher to keep track of students work. There are different options to run this activity with the stations.

Option 1: Teacher can run activity with 10 math stations placed around the room. The students walk around the classroom searching for the stations, placing the 10 problems in unexpected places like behind a book case or next to other posters, which seems to add to the excitement. Just like in a Mad Lib game, at each station, students obtain a word or phrase; correct answers will deliver the right word that will form a funny story.

Option 2 Teacher could also run this activity with the students sitting in one station, with a total 5 stations. Place 2 problems in an envelope and have one student from each table deliver the envelope from table to table in a clockwise rotation. In this case it is recommended you set a time limit of approximately 5-10 minutes maximum that each table can hold on to the envelope and when time has elapsed, they move on to the next set of problems.
Option 3- Musical Math Game
Musical Math just like Musical Chairs gives the students a chance to move around from one station to the next while music plays in the background. The game works out so that the class is divided into 5 stations with 3 or 4 students working as a group. Each station has 2 problems for the students to work on while at that station. Students sit with their group while the music is playing and during this time they solve the problems at each station. When teacher stops the music, after 4- 5 minutes, the group moves to the next station where they will find the next set of 2 problems. Students are expected to solve the problems in the worksheets provided.
