This graphic organizer is designed to help students remember quadrilateral properties using family tree relationships. Properties are presented from top to bottom and are organized based on the number of pairs of parallel lines. I enlarge the family tree to 11x17 paper, punch a hole in one of the short sides, and have students fold in half to clip into their binders. We take notes directly on the quadrilaterals. I have found this instructional strategy to be highly effective in helping students remember the abundance of properties pertaining to quadrilaterals. I present the family tree by talking about biological family trees and connecting quadrilateral properties to traits we inherit from our parents (and one day pass on to our children).
Included is a completely blank family tree, a family tree with just quadrilateral names, and a complete family tree with all properties. Family trees are provided in both .docx and .pdf format for your own editing based on the properties you will teach. I have also included JPEGs of both the blank and completed family trees.
