Here is a fun activity to compare and contrast the characteristics of the five quadrilaterals: trapezoid, parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, and square. Scissors and glue sticks are required.
As the students cut out the shapes, discuss the name of each shape and what the markings represent. Have the students glue a shape next to each characteristic it has. Once the table is filled in, discuss the similarities and differences.
This is a great visual representation for the students to see such concepts such as how a rectangle is a parallelogram but a parallelogram is not a rectangle. The students will be pulling it out over and over again when working on assignments on quadrilaterals.
