Getting students to understand that a square can also be called a rectangle can be tricky business, but identifying shapes based on their attributes helps things to go more smoothly. Use this quiz in conjunction with a quadrilateral family tree as an in-class activity, or give it as an assessment of students' geometric knowledge. In addition to types of quadrilaterals, this quiz includes vocabulary such as parallel, congruent, opposite, adjacent, and right angle. It's almost entirely multiple choice or yes/no, so it's easy to grade. The quiz also includes an application where students have to draw a quadrilateral given its name. If you score the first three answers as two points each and the student-produced drawing of a quadrilateral as three points, then scoring all other answers as one point makes a nice round total of 50 points!
