These cards contain 19 different engaging story starters from well known novels to help teach students the importance of starting their writing with a 'hook'.
These could be used in a number of ways, however, I have my students work with a partner and read through the opening few sentence(s). They then discuss what the writer did to hook in their reader and what sort of beginning it is, eg. action, conversation or description.
There are two versions, the chalkboard and coloured version or a more printer-friendly white and coloured.
