As all teachers know, every student has a different idea of a quality assignment. This lesson involves parents and their idea of quality work and looks at examples of high qulaity and low quality work. After discussing their parents ideas and looking at different types of work, students develop a checklist to be attached to every assignment they turn in. Working with middle and high school students, this short assignment has set the table for all of my classes. If students can't check every item off the checklist, then cannot hand the assignment in. I use it every day and I love that the students generate the checklist. This lesson can be used for every level. Done at the beginning of the year, it sets the tone for the whole year!
