Product Description
Teaching readers to be quality writers can be tricky because good readers don't always make good writers. So what is it about good writers? Well first, they understand what it is that good writers do to create books that they want to read. This resource has been designed to help your primary readers identify what characteristics or traits good writers have.

Students are taught (or will review) characteristics of good writing as the teacher shares a book that is a good example of that trait. (ideas, sentence fluency, conventions, voice, word choice, organization). A list of my favorite books for each trait is included.

Students work in pairs or groups to read books and decide which authors are best at using those traits. They list those books or authors on the provided printable and color the picture. Once they have finished each trait/page, the set can be bound as a book or put into a duo tang for future reference. This is also a great self assessment reference booklet for students to use to assess their own writing after they have finished. Did I organize my writing? Did I choose interesting descriptive words?

Inside this packet you will find:

*A teacher information sheet to help guide you through the process

* A short book list of books useful in teaching what good writers do

* Student sheets for students to work independently or in pairs on each characteristic which is taught separately. Just add BOOKS!

* A printable at the end for students to create their own lists of writing ideas they might like to use or words to use later.

This booklet is a GREAT accompaniment to What Good Writers Do which you can download for free!
