This participation rubric focuses on target language usage and participation in the World Language classroom. I distribute this rubric at the beginning of each quarter, revisit expectations, and have students self-evaluate at the end of each quarter. This is a clear, concise 1-page rubric that emphasizes the importance of active participation.
The rubric focuses on the following four categories:
1). Staying on task and Listening
2). Volunteering to ask/answer questions & actively participate in activities
3). Speaking in the Target Language
4). Completing Daily Warm-up Activity
Students are then asked to justify/explain their evaluation in 2-3 short sentences. Finally, there is space for the instructor to provide written feedback.
The rubric is currently created for the Spanish language, but can be modified for any language.
