Houghton Mifflin Journeys for 5th Grade has an achor text entitled "Quest for the Tree Kangaroo". I have created the following supplemental materials in order to meet the learning goal effectively.
Students are not only expected to find cause & effect relationships. They are expected to be able to explain the relationships between events and how they effect outcomes.
I have included two activities in this product. The first activity lists a cause or an effect and the students are to find the cause or effect that matches this event. I have included an answer key with suggested relationships.
The second handout includes ONE writing task. (PLEASE NOTE, there is only ONE task, I have conserved space by including the same prompt two times on the page. Therefore you will only need to make 1/2 of the copies you normally make for the second activity.). On this task I have include a graphic organizer to show a series of events that lead to the next. It is my intent that the students identify the details from the text that lead to the history of placing a collar on the first male tree kangaroo.
I will have my students glue these two activities in their reader's notebook.
LAFS.5.RI.1.3 Explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text. (DOK 3)
This is one of many resources that I have created for my students to achieve FSA Reading & Writing goals. Please check out my store for additional activities.
