This Question Grid is a great activity to do with geography content-area classes, but could be used with most any class related to Latin America as it also encourages skills related to teamwork and cooperation. Question Grids are fantastic for reviewing topics studied in class prior to a quiz or test, but they are also used as a fun, interactive introduction because they open a pathway for discussion of the topic of study. Even if they don't know most of the answers, the students have fun trying to figure them out with classmates and this truly builds interest in the subject matter. Plus, the teacher will go over the answers and it leads to great discussions. Each Question Grid set is made up of twelve topic-related questions and an answer key for the teacher. The answer key not only contains the answer, but also background information to aid your class discussions. This background information is critical since it makes discussing the topic easy and more interesting!
This student-centered, cooperative learning activity allows the students to get up and move around the room as they try to answer the questions on their grid and get signatures from other students. It's a fun way to learn about a topic and all my students love this activity! Full instructions are on the Question Grid activity sheet.
The Question Grids serve as a great review tool because the students can see exactly what questions (or topics) they do not quite understand. Also, you can use them in as little as thirty minutes for a quick review or much longer depending on how much you discuss each question. I have included an answer sheet with notes to make checking them and interesting discussion a breeze!
This particular Question Grid is based on the geography of Latin America and is the second in my Geography Series. I also have one on Latin American Trivia. Please check back because I will be adding more sets of Question Grids as soon as possible! Thank you!
