This is a set of question and answer mats for the special education classroom (or pre-k). They are designed to help students’ language development. They focus on who, what, and where questions within the context of familiar settings. This also helps students develop understanding of common nouns and verbs.
There are 7 different mats with 4 questions on each mat. Besides who, what, and where, a few "how" questions are included too.
• at school
• in the kitchen
• in the bathroom
• at the park
• at the grocery store
• in summer
• in winter
All pieces are color coded, so you know which 4 cards go with each mat. You can place Velcro dots on the backs of the cards and in the boxes on the mats. This will let you store the cards right on the correct mat and also lets students move the cards and stick them onto the correct box to answer each question. This helps to develop fine motor skills as well.
These activities are appropriate for English language learners (ELLs) and students with language impairment.
