Classic short story "The Sniper" is always a hit with kids-- it's really short but full of content dealing with the theme of war and its impact on human relationships. These five short answer questions (one of which requires a paragraph-length response) require kids to think critically about the story. Questions relate to setting, plot, conflict, point of view and theme. If you review the fiction terms, then read and discuss the story and assign the questions, it takes one full class. The next class you can discuss the questions and perhaps connect it to current wars/conflicts.
