This parent letter gives students and families a quick and easy reference guide to assist them when solving difficult math problems. It gives a list of questions to ask which help facilitate critical and independent thinking. It breaks questions up into three simple to use categories: questions to ask before starting, during the process, and after solving. It also explains the importance of this questioning process to parents and enables them to support their child even if they are not confident in their own math skills! Who knows, maybe parents will even be able to learn something from their children! :)
This list can be laminated and used as a regular reference sheet for teachers, students, and tutors! I recommend posting this in a convenient location such as the at-home refrigerator, homework station, inside of a notebook, or on a classroom wall.
