What educators are saying

Students had so much fun playing this. Great to use as an informal assessment for speaking and listening strands.

Description

Qui est-ce? is a French personal description guessing game that will get your students thinking and communicating in French! This resource includes 3 full-colour illustrated game boards, a tracking sheet and a list of suggested questions for students that require extra support. This is a versatile game that can be played as a whole class, in small groups or in student pairs.

***The three board games are 'la famille' and 'mes amis' themed.

Objective: The objective of the game is to guess the identity of a secret character by asking a series of “oui” and “non” answer questions.

How to play:

Whole class: Project one of the illustrated game boards on your whiteboard. Provide each student (or a small group of students) with a copy of a tracking sheet. The teacher (or a selected student)will secretly choose one of the characters displayed. Each character has been identified by a number, so students will remember the number. Students (or small groups) will take turns asking “oui” or “non” answer questions to the teacher or selected student. Students will use the provided tracking sheet to keep track of the characters that DO or DO NOT fit the description guesses. They should be left with 1 character at the end which should be the secret character.

Student pairs or small group play: Print one of the illustrated game boards for each student pair or small group. Provide each student (or a small group of students) with a copy of a tracking sheet. A selected student will secretly choose one of the characters. Each character has been identified by a number, so students will remember the number. Students will take turns asking “oui” or “non” answer questions to the selected student. Students will use the provided tracking sheet to keep track of the characters that DO or DO NOT fit the description guesses. They should be left with 1 character at the end which should be the secret character.
