This simple but addictive game is your solution for mixed skill groups! It's low prep and can be used to reinforce ANY skill. I originally designed these for short articulation or fluency sessions (5-10 minutes) although it can also be used for longer 20-30 minute sessions, too. It will actually have your students begging for more, and this one happens to faciltate discussions about emotions, too!
Just set a timer and begin drill with any skill. After your student says his/her articulation targets or uses fluency strategies to your liking (3 times, 5 times, etc) allow him/her to pick a card. You can do the same for students reading sight words or answering math facts! If it’s a CHICK card, he/she gets to keep it. If it’s one of the wild cards, follow the directions on the card. When the timer rings, the person with the most cards wins!
As an alternate way to play, have students say the phrase on the card (such as "sad chick") when each card is turned over OR make a sentence about the card they picked OR tell why someone (or chick) might feel that way.
- 25 emotional chick cards depicting a variety of emotions and 5 wild cards
- a list of emotion themed target words to use for drill if desired (sorted by phoneme)
- a list of Easter themed target words to use for drill if desired (sorted by phoneme)
Just print, cut, & play (laminate for durability). No wasted paper!
