When writer's block or fear of stepping outside of their comfort zone sets in, students need a reference sheet to motivate them and push them forward. I like to give this sheet as a reference and challenge students to write more than one type of hook when revising. The same goes for a clincher. This handout is great for the Common Core because a solid hook and clincher is what every teacher craves, no matter what the class. In addition to the Common Core, this sheet also assists with differentiation: students can check off so they don't repeat and teachers can assign based on difficulty level.
