Teaching verbs is in our third lesson within our first unit of ELA teaching.
I usually begin with reading "If You Were A Verb," by Michael Dahl and/or "It's Hard To Be A Verb," by Julia Cook. Both books can be found on YouTube.
Afterwards, discuss in detail that verbs are things we can do! Have your students fill out an "I can" worksheet to discuss the verb they think they can do.
There is one worksheet with a verb word bank (for students that qualify), and one without.
Once your students write a sentence, have them draw a picture to coincide. Concluding the activity, have each student read their sentence out loud to the class and act out their verb.
