"Note Passing Allowed"
Created for grades 7&8: suitable for many levels
Tap into the middle level penchant for writing notes by pairing students to write conversations from prompts. This quick-write may be used as a class opener to settle students or as a longer assignment later in the class period. Standardized tests across the country require quick thinking by students creating several pieces of writing on most tests. Quick-writes like this one offer low pressure, yet frequent opportunities for daily writing.
I have included three printable prompt cards. You may also create prompt cards directing a conversation between current celebrities or famous individuals and a TV, news, or magazine reporter. Several copies of each prompt will be needed to circulate among student pairs.
Enjoy the quiet, but don't forget to give students a chance to share some of their clever conversations!
