Product Description
A concise 1-page quiz worth 20 points that provides a review of atomic number, mass number and calculating the number protons, electrons and neutrons in one atom of an element through 3 assessment questions.

I typically use this short assessment to gauge student understanding of the meaning of an element's atomic number and mass number after performing a previous worksheet on the same topic. A link to the worksheet Element Math is found below.

Worksheet - Element Math

Quiz Topics:

- Identifying the atomic number, mass number, symbol, and name of an element
- Calculating the number of protons, neutrons, electrons in an element
- Explaining why the number of protons and electrons must equal

Includes Full Answer Key:

Page 2 features a color-coded answer key that can be used by the teacher alone, displayed to students on a screen/interactive white board, or handed out to students as a review document.

Includes 2 Periodic Tables for Handouts:

Since a periodic table is required for this assessment, Page 3 features 2 small periodic tables that can be printed off and used by students to look up the names, chemical symbols, atomic numbers, and mass numbers of elements in order to complete Question #2. The periodic tables are high resolution images in black and white for easy photocopying. There are 2 per page to minimize the amount of photocopies needed.

Downloadable in 2 Formats:

This worksheet comes in 2 formats: a static PDF document and fully-editable WORD document
