This American trivia game is designed to increase knowledge of famous (and a few "not so famous") Americans who have made valuable contributions to the United States of America.
There are 6 topics (each with 12 cards): Historical Figures, Entertainers, Authors, Scientists, Artists and Athletes. My suggestion is that you print these off and laminate them so that they can be used over and over again. You could glue each card in a category to a specific color of construction paper. Store them in a shoe box or basket. Allow the students to get a few at a time to “study” after their in-class assignments have been completed. They can also sign them out, take a few home to review and bring them back. A sign out sheet is included.
Perhaps you can have Trivia Tuesdays or Thursdays to encourage them to learn about famous Americans. You can divide the class into two teams. Each card has four facts. If a team can guess the name on the first fact, it is awarded four points. If they request another clue, and then guess the correct answer, they get three points, and so on, with the point value decreasing with each additional given fact. The team with the most points at the end wins (you'll have to set a time limit for the game). You may choose how many and which cards will be used in each game. You can align the choices with the units being studied, focus on just scientists for example, or you can just choose randomly. Have fun!
This is a great rainy day activity, too! Another great use for this package is that it allows students to inspect a few cards at a time if they're choosing a subject for a more detailed project. This gives them an introduction various people in America’s history.
Whether or not your students are Americans, this is a great resource to teach them about America and the people who have made a difference to her history.
The photographs are all from the public domain and the sources have been carefully documented.
Due to the digital nature of this product, no refunds will be given.
This package can be used over the elementary as well as the high school levels. I hope you and your students will have a lot of fun with this game as they increase their knowledge of the United States of America.
