This is a scaffolded 30 point assessment that tests students introductory knowledge of the preterite. It is comprised of:
1. Preterite conjugation (10 points) - students write the ending to verbs in the preterite in a paragraph discussing the day of prom, with two car/gar/zar prompts.
2. Reading comprehension (6 points) - students answer questions in the preterite about the prom paragraph they just finished. Short answers accepted.
3. Writing (8 points) - students write four sentences about what they did the previous weekend, using a verb bank for assistance.
4. Listening comprehension (6 points) - students listen to dialogues and write down what each person or persons did during the weekend.
This assessment tests use of the preterite in all its forms (yo, tu etc..) and has more ar verbs than er/ir verbs, with several car/gar/zar verbs. In addition, it passively tests comprehension of ir and ver, without production.
I use this for Spanish 1 late in the year, and for Spanish 2, with Realidades 1 8a, and Realidades 2 2b. It is a solid stand-alone assessment. Enjoy!
