Quote journal or double columned notes prompts your students to answer higher order thinking questions on their own. The questions are complete with the template. Students direct their own learning with this and journal while reading. Students write a meaningful or confusing quote on one side and journal their reactions to the quote on the other side. This can be used in history, art, and every other class. This is not just a literature tool! Art teachers could present different paintings and allow students to journal reactions to the different pieces they were shown. This is very versatile! Useful for middle grades, too!
