This "Quote of the Day" middle school bellringer resource is a FULL YEAR of inspirational quote warm-ups for your middle school ELA classroom! Motivate your students all year with an inspirational quote each day, in addition to a total of 540 skill-based questions covering the following middle school English/Language Arts topics:
-Words in context
-Cause and effect
-Point of view
You can use this product in a variety of ways! Post the quote of the day and discuss the questions as a class; post the quote on an interactive whiteboard and let students write the answers and receive feedback; let students complete the daily quote on that week's worksheet and discuss answers using the PowerPoint slide; collect the worksheet for a classwork grade at the end of the week; or do several quotes at a time to practice a specific skill.
You can even pick and choose quotes by author, topic, or skill using the handy Quote Index that is included in the file! I often choose quotes relating to specific events going on in my school or classroom, and when we cover topics like figurative language and poetry terms, I try to find quotes that reinforce those skills.
This file contains everything you need for a year of inspiration:
-180 quote slides, including three skill-based questions each
-36 weekly worksheets containing five quotes each, plus the questions for students to answer on their own
-Table of contents for each "month" of 20 quote slides, containing each quote's author, topic, and skills covered
-Complete index of quotes listed alphabetically by author
*Month 6 was created with Black History Month in mind; 50% of the quotes come from notable African-Americans.
*Month 7 was created with Women's History Month in mind; over 50% of the quotes come from notable women.
I am constantly amazed by the relevance of these quotes, even though many of them were written centuries ago! So often the quote I choose at random touches on a specific issue going on in my class that day. I hope your students are as inspired by these wonderful quotes as mine have been over the years!
*Thanks to Sonya DeHart Designs for the cover border!
