‘Quote of the Week’ is one of the most popular things we do in my classroom. Kids love to see the new quote each week and then they get a chance to write about it and discuss. SO many thought-provoking discussions have taken place since I have started to incorporate this. Students will often use these quotes while having discussions about other topics or books!
I do a math/language arts review sheet as morning work Monday-Thursday. On Friday, the students get their new quote, cut out, glue in their journal, and get writing. We then discuss using accountable talk. The kids love taking this journal home at the end of the year. Many ask to bring it home at different times during the year to show their parents. Every week I pick one student to showcase their writing. They re-write on the included ‘Quote of the Week Showcase’ paper and I display either in our classroom or out in the hallway.
There are also 8 ½ x 11 posters included along with a sign to make an attractive classroom display.
