Looking for more activities to include in your Bossy R unit literacy centers? These hands on activities are just what you have been looking for. You students will construct R-Controlled puzzles, clip the correct spelling of the Bossy R word, write using R-Controlled words/pictures, and complete a fun word search.
Puzzles (5 pages, 20 puzzles):
Each puzzle features a colorful picture, and initial, medial and final sounds. You can print, laminate, and cut the puzzles apart and allow the students to put the pieces back together. They will construct words to match your featured phonics skill.
Clip-It (5 pages, 20 cards):
These clip-it cards are great for your students who are practicing the “does it look right strategy?” Each card has an image and three possible spellings of the word. The students must decide which one looks right. By placing a colored dot on the back of the correct option, this could be a self checking center.
Picture story (3 differentiated levels, 2 lined paper option):
This is a favorite of my students. There are three differentiated options (leveled by the number of words to include in the story). Students can cut out the pictures on the bottom of the writing paper, and substitute them into their writing.
Word Search (2 differentiated options):
Who doesn't love a word search? The first option has pictures, rather than words. Your students will be challenged to either spell the words before searching, or do a blind search to see what words they can find by using the spelling patterns they are learning. The second option includes a word list, so this search is a little easier. Some of the work of figuring out exactly what words they need to look for is doe for them. You and your students can pick what best fits their needs.
