R- Controlled Trigraphs can be one of the hardest to teach because they are so tricky and make many different sounds.

These sound sorting cards offer a great way to clip and sort the words by the sound that the 3 red letters make. Mnemonic word pictures on each card can help aid the student in sound sorting and answering the question: Sounds like?

Pictures help provide a visual for the R-controlled spelling trigraph used in the word.

Mnemonic pictures on cards include the sounds:

ear, air, oar, er, our, r, & uar- as in jaguar.
