This set includes 3 different sets of R Controlled Vowel word cards for student to sort, posters for an anchor chart, an interactive element for notebooks and follow up worksheets. There is also a blank sheet for each set so you can add or change words.
Here is how I use them:
First I introduce the sound cards and we brainstorm words that go with each vowel diagraph pattern. We co-create an anchor chart. Students use the anchor chart to make the interactive element for their writing notebook (grammar section).
I use one set of cards as a whole group activity. I place the cards around the room and students walk around and record the words on their chart.
Then I use them as a center activity during guided reading rotations. I give a different set of cards out for individual students or partners with a recording sheet and depending on the group level a follow-up worksheet.
You could also use them for early finishers or as a center on a winter fun activity day.
The follow up worksheets are:
*fill in the blank
*right or wrong
*making words (as a bonus have students highlight any r controlled vowel words)
