R-controlled vowel words can be tricky for kids to read! Here are 3 games to make them a bit easier for your students. Games included are:
Bump: Read the words to place a counter on the board. Be careful, if you only have 1 you can get bumped! Freeze your counter by getting 2 on the same space!
Shooting Stars: Draw cards to read the words. If you're lucky, you'll get an extra card. Watch out for the game over card!
Race Around the Track: Draw cards to read the words and move around the racetrack to the matching sound. Each time around the track equals a penny! Try to get the most pennies, but what out for a speeding ticket!
More detailed directions are included. Games can be used in small groups, literacy centers, whole groups or with volunteers. Have fun practicing r-controlled vowels!
