The following Powerpoint poems (5 poems in all: ar—Uncle Harm’s Broken Arm, er—Twister Sister, ir—Thirty Circles, or—Torch the Horse, ur—Miss Burny Burch) will provide practice with words that have r-controlled vowels (a blended vowel sound that is neither the short nor the long sound of the vowel). Enjoy listening to a narrated version of the poems. After you have listened to a poem, read along with the narrator and try to keep up (this PowerPoint includes slides that the reader controls—it will not advance automatically so that a student can practice as long as he/she would like to). After the poems, a narrated version of words in the –ar, -er, -ir, -or, and –ur categories will be available for word list practice. A preview is not available because of the size of the file. Have a wonderful time!
