I made this activity for my students to practice reading words (1 and 2 syllable) and identifying if it contains an ER, IR and UR r-controlled syllable. This worksheet can be used for practice, an assessment tool, homework, or a center. The students have to circle the r-controlled vowel in each word, then cut and sort/glue the words into the correct category. This activity can go along with any spelling program. It would be ideal for 1st and 2nd grade students, however it would also help struggling students in 3rd grade or to serve as a review at the start of 3rd grade.
