This package by Ruth Rumack contains 5 activities to practice discriminating between the three R-controlled vowel sounds, and 3 culminating activities to practice decoding and spelling words containing these sounds.
The activities include the following:
-R-Controlled Vowel Sound Sort (sorting cards and mat): Students sort image cards based on the R-controlled vowel sound heard in the word.
Same or Different?: Students say the words of the two images on the card and must sort the cards based on whether they hear the same R-controlled vowel in each word or different ones.
- Climb the Tree Word Ladder: Students use clues to spell new words as they move up the ladder by changing one sound in the word before it.
- R-Controlled Vowel Tales: These are decodable stories in which students practice reading and writing words containing R-controlled vowels.
- Word Search: Students search for words containing R-controlled vowels.
