I use this packet for students who have a pretty solid R but need help with generalization. This 19 page packet is divided into four main sections or challenges. Each challenge is sub-divided by type of R (prevocalic, blends, vocalic er, ar, ear, air, ire, ore)
Challenge #1: R words – Read with speed! I have the student read the word lists as quickly and accurately as they can, by column and by row.
Challenge #2: R challenging word list. These R words are difficult contexts, such as multisyllables, recurring R words, or L's and W's which are sometimes tricky to master.
Challenge #3: R sentences. Student fills in the given R loaded phrase with their own R word.
Challenge #4: Read R Stories. This is my favorite part. I have the student go through and find all the R words containing the "AR" sound or the "AIR" sound, etc. We talk about how sometimes they are spelled differently but sound that way. Then they read the paragraph. This is really helpful for a lot of students.
