Students are often asked to answer questions about a piece of text using the concept RACE Students need to respond by restating the question, using text evidence, and explaining their answer. Even with a handy acronym, this can sometimes be very difficult.
This product uses a step by step guide to teach students how to use RACE.
Students will start with questions they already know the answer to. For example, questions about themselves. They then will move on to basic fiction questions that you can use with nearly any story you are reading, and finally nonfiction.
There are task cards that can be used the same way. Kids can either write the questions down and then answer the questions on the given sheet, or just practice them orally. The task cards are also differentiates with sentence stems or just the question so kids at different levels can focus on their specific needs.
