This 17 minute broadcast from Radio Ambulante is one of my favourite episodes. Heritage learners who have fled gang violence in their home countries will really identify with the protagonists story about how her choice of hair colour almost cost her life. This podcast is excellent for discussing the AP theme of identity and how our identity can affect how we are judged and/or treated. This lesson works best with Heritage learners or Advanced Placement students with a little extra help from you, replaying parts to aid their comprehension. Download includes questions that follow the broadcast in order, an essay prompt with rubric for reflection afterwards and an answer key. Lesson takes one class period to complete.
