RAFT activities for Back to School to Winter from August to December

This resource has 5 different RAFT assignments for each of the following holidays/seasons: Back to School, Halloween/Day of the Dead, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and the Winter Holiday. Tasks range from writing assignments to creating videos or PSAs to poetry writing providing students with a voice and choice over their work.

RAFT activities are highly engaging and are a perfect way to move beyond basic multiple choice questions. With RAFTs, students are taken out of their familiar worldview and forced to think from a new, unique perspective resulting in increased creativity and critical thinking. RAFTs encourage students to infuse their work with an authentic voice and creativity. They are an easy way to implement higher order thinking skills that support the 4Cs (Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, & Critical Thinking).

A RAFT provides students with predefined parameters that students must take into account prior to responding. RAFT stands for Role, Audience, Format, and Topic. RAFT activities help students consider the angle they will be responding from (role), who they are writing to (audience), how they will respond (format), and the direction they should take their response (topic).
