I use RAFTS when I teach writing. It is a great writing strategy for students to use because it is very specific in teaching how to dissect a prompt. I have made some slides to use in your lessons on teaching writing.
RAFTS stands for:
When students can identify key aspects of the prompt given to them, they experience more success in writing to a task.
Included in this resource:
- Slides for each part of RAFTS with examples and meanings
- Sample prompts for students to decipher
- Answers for the sample prompts
- A student task to write their own RAFTS prompt
The student-generated prompts would be a great resource for content review, journaling, bell work, and writers workshop!
