Use the RAN chart to develop understandings on a topic through reading.
First identify what we think we know.
Then read and confirm knowledge, identify misconceptions and record new learning.
Record questions and wonderings.
Through this synthesis process students gather information for writing a summary.
There are 2 versions of the RAN chart. One has pictures with the headings to cue in younger or less able readers.
There are large coloured headings for a wall chart to use when explicitly teaching the process and thinking or for a whole-class wall chart display.
There are different versions of the headings to use desk-top with post-it notes individually or in pairs.
These resources are also now available as part of Information Texts - a complete kit for use in grades 3-6
