This slide/ poster and interactive notebook insert was created to assist students in utilizing the RAP strategy for constructed and extended response questions. In the past, I have used R.A.C.E. (restate, answer, cite evidence, explain) but students are typically 'disconnected' to to the C.E. portion. (Not to mention that many text response questions do not require you to always cite and explain!) By utilizing RAP, students learn how to PROVE their answers are correct with less rigidity, therefore allowing them to focus more on thoroughly answering the question and less on the structure of what they're writing. The notebook inserts I made for this explain that they can cite evidence or paraphrase and explain to prove their work.
Make this into a poster, use as a slide during a minilesson, and even use during small groups! Students have their own notebook inserts to reference throughout the year.
Teach this along with responding to texts for both literary and informational text standards.
