This document explains the pedagogy behind this assessment.
The whole point of this assessment is to provide educators with practical, usable information on their students' TRUE literacy and cognitive level, not just what can be gleaned from politically-motivated standardized exams from big testing companies.
The data yielded by this assessment will help teachers to create intentional groupings, identify student literacy strengths and weaknesses, create targeted scaffolding for individual and groups of students, and help to bring instructional planning into sharper focus.

As the year goes by, I will be posting Midyear and End-of-year assessments that will allow teachers to track student progress throughout the year, and to adjust to learning needs as you go.
