Help your students build their word fluency with these fun partner games!
Play is simple. Using a paperclip and a pencil, partners take turns spinning the spinner and reading the words in the corresponding column(s). Each player keeps track of how many words were read correctly on the score card included on the printable. After each player has spun 5 times, the player with the most words read correctly wins the game.
There are 2 game sheets per targeted skill: Printable A contains words used often in primary grade reading series, such as Reading Street and Harcourt Trophies. Printable B uses the same targeted skills, but the words are a little more challenging.
Targeted skills include: Vowel Sounds of Y; Consonant Patterns: NG, NK; r-Controlled: OR, ORE; r-controlled: AR; r-controlled: ER, IR, UR; Consonant Pattern: DGE; Contractions; Spelling Pattern: CH, TCH; Digraphs: QU, WH; Spelling Pattern: LE; Long O: OA, OW; Long E: EE, EA; and Long I: IGH.
This activity works well as a literacy center, during morning work, partner time, and RTI. My students like to take extra game sheets home to play the games with their families, too! So.... You may want to make some extra copies!
Thanks for stopping by!
