This manual will help chemistry teachers in a number of ways. In addition to providing teachers with models of reactions, this manual also covers a wide variety of first year chemistry topics such as balancing equations, ionic/covalent bonds, salt dissolution and hydrogen bonding, the use of chemical reactivity tables to predict reaction outcomes, electron dot and the octet rule, and electron configuration. The manual includes 'easy to grade' modeling activities and activity templates for teachers who want to create their own modeling activities. There are also work-sheets and answers ready for photocopy.
Many high school chemistry students struggle with chemical notation. They often are unable to associate the symbols used to describe elements, compounds, electrons and bonding with an actual chemical reaction. By providing every student in the classroom with the appropriate reaction modeling tools, this manual allows students to recognize how the abstract chemistry symbols describe an authentic chemical reaction.
