Consider this complete MLA research project: Exploring American Cultures.

Studying American minority groups is essential. Traditional perspectives are often ethnocentric and omit the significant embodied narratives of non-white Americans and events that influenced the course of history and modern society. We must prioritize and include these minorities’ contributions in the study of American history, culture, and modern society.

Students choose from over 100 topics, historical and contemporary, related to Black Americans and events, Latino Americans and events, and Americans of Asian descent and events.

  • Activities include:

  • Identifying legitimate sources

  • Creating a strong detailed thesis statement

  • Developing a preliminary research and note-taking outline

  • Taking notes

  • Organizing a formal outline

  • Composing the research draft

  • I include an example thesis statement, preliminary outline, several sample note cards, and a sample Works Cited page.

  • There is a final draft checklist which could double as a scoring rubric.

  • There is also a due date chart.

BONUS: MLA in-text citation instructions and practice activity.

Thank you for your consideration of this important activity.
