Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
-Use these cards as a matching game. Students turn all cards over so the words are covered. Then, turn over two at a time to match short vowel words with other short vowel words (example: “get” and “yes” are a match because they are both short “e” words.)
-Students sort the words into short- and long-vowel word categories.
