Product Description
These 2 centers are perfect to have students identify and sort Long and Short Vowel Sounds. I created these centers because I felt the Grab-and-Go! Center by Journeys Common Core for Grade 3; Lesson 6 were boring!!!!! I recommend you create 2 sets in case you have the children work in groups of 2 at a center.


Directions 1:

-Cut out the cards and place them inside a Ziploc bag. Create 2 sets.

-Have students follow the direction on the Phonics Mat. Make sure both partners check to make sure the words were placed in the correct box. Then, allow them to check the answer key.

-Copy the Phonics Mat on Cardstock and laminate.

Directions 2:

-Print CARD 1 and CARD 2. DO NOT CUT OUT THE WORDS. Either laminate or place in a protective sheet.

-Hand each student an EXPO marker and have them circle all the words with the long or short vowel sounds. Then, have the students check the answer key. To create an answer key, make an extra copy of CARDS 1 and CARDS 2 and circle the words with a marker and place it at the center.

Note: You can also use Cards 1 and 2 to quickly determine which students cannot hear the difference between a long vowel and short vowel.
