This lesson introduces and teaches CCS RI 3.6: Distinguish their own point of view from that of the author of a text.
This lesson focuses on teaching students the concept that often author's write with their own point of view on a given topic. Students are then shown that they can have a differing point of view from that of the author's. Students will be given passages in which they will have to locate key details and then determine the author's point of view. They will then have to write and explain whether they agree with the author's point of view or not and why. Most slides contain sentence frames to assist ELL's and for academic discourse. This lesson includes a PowerPoint and worksheets that allow students to engage and write during the lesson.
