This lesson introduces and teaches CCS RI 3.8 Describe the logical connection between particular sentences and paragraphs in a text (comparison, cause/effect, first, second, third in a sequence.
This lesson focuses on teaching students the concept of how to identify signal words that would help them to determine if a text is in written in a comparing format. They are then taught how to identify how two people, things, or events are alike and different. The skill portion of the lesson will have a pop in format, so students will have think time.
This PowerPoint also comes with 2 worksheets that allow students to engage and write with the skill portion of the lesson. The lesson contains sentence frames to assist ELL's and for academic discourse.
