This PowerPoint lesson introduces and teaches RI 5.8: Explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support particular points in a text, identifying which reasons and evidence support which points.
This lesson introduces to students that often people, media sources, as well as authors are trying to convince us of their point. The lesson teaches that an author can present more than one point and provide supporting reasons for each point. Students will be required in the skill portion of the lesson, to identify the points, supporting reasons for each point, and then determine if they agree or disagree with the author and explain why.
This PowerPoint also includes worksheets that enable students to engage and interact with the lesson. Most of the slides also include sentence frames that assist with ELLS and academic discourse throughout the lesson.
